What do I need to wear and what should I bring for Maternity & Newborn Sessions?
After booking your session, we will send you a guide on what to expect and how to prepare for your session. Detailed information is provided to ensure that you get the very best from your photography session, including a comprehensive guide on ‘what to wear’.
When is the best time to do a newborn session?
I love creating beautiful portraits of teeny tiny, curly, sleepy newborns. This style is best captured in the first two weeks of life, before baby goes through a developmental growth spurt that makes them fussy, easily startled, uncurled, and subject to baby acne. We do provide gentle retouching for baby (skin tones, light and natural retouching to minimize flakiness, etc), but do ask that you request us to do any specific removals (like birth marks, stork bites, etc). I like to do Newborn sessions typically on Mondays to Fridays around 11 am as I find this the best time of day to photograph newborns.
Can I bring my children to the newborn session? Newborn photography sessions are very long and can be up to 3 hours in duration. The key to a successful newborn session is a lot of patience and a calm enviroment. This is a very frustrating situation for children, which then adds to the stress level of parents. Sibling and newborn photos can be very beautiful but very challenging to get. Siblings are welcomed at the beginning of the session but it is requested someone is available to take them home once our sibling session is done.
Can I bring other people or family to my newborn session? The same reasons as above would apply. Newborn sessions require a calm, distraction free environment and the more people there are around the higher the excitement and energy levels are, it’s just natural when there are multiple people gathered around a new baby. I suggest Mom, Dad or one other family member to attend if you need assistance.
What is the process from session to receiving my images? I send all images via a online gallery for you to download in high resolution, you can then print as many copies as you like. Images will be ready for download in 4 weeks after your session.
Where are sessions held? All Newborn sessions are held in my Studio located a few minutes past Walmart. Children sessions are can be indoors or outdoors. Family sessions are taken outside.
Some things we provide: wifi, changing table, diapers, wipes, blankets, swaddles, burp cloths, couch, an assortment of toys for siblings, light reading material, and water bottles. And no…you don’t need to bring props, but you’re welcome to bring a few sentimental baby items just please let me know before the session.
Baby is already here. Am I too late?
In the case of extended NICU stays or last minute bookings, I have created beautiful images for newborns up to 14 weeks old! Older newborns aren’t posed and are more likely to be awake and swaddled for their session – but I love to capture their open eyes and the beginnings of their relationship with their parents. Contact us and we’ll see if we can squeeze you in!
